Depression is a serious medical condition. The symptoms of Depression may include sadness, changes in your weight and sleep schedule, a feeling of hopelessness,  loss of energy, loss of interest, and thoughts of suicide.

Please do one of our self-evaluations if you feel you may be suffering from depression or anxiety. Should your results suggest that treatment be considered, bring us your results at your initial evaluation.

In working professionals, depression first presents itself in the drop of productivity. To minimize the impact of depression, treatment to full remission of symptoms is required.

When depression is treated completely, the symptoms are less likely to recur. Frequently, depressed patients adopt a very pessimistic attitude and are likely to see available treatment as potentially ineffective. However, an initial diagnostic interview with NYC Psychiatrist Dr. Fruitman, can help the patients re-establish their faith in treatment, their belief in themselves, and start the healing process.

Ketamine for Depression in New York
NYC Psychiatrist Dr. Edward Fruitman, MD offers Ketamine Injections for Treatment Resistant Depression

Depression continues to be a disease that is not completely understood.  Modern neuroscience has come up with logical and cohesive models, which describe depression as the deficiency or reduced activity of the neurotransmitters Serotonin, Norepinephrine and Dopamine in the brain.  All FDA-approved medications affect one of or more of the above neurotransmitters.

The art of psychopharmacology is to find the right combination of medications that will optimize the activity of the three aforementioned neurotransmitters for a given patient.  However, current models of depression do not explain why antidepressants do not work instantly or why antidepressants do not work for all depressed patients. To complicate matters further, current research shows that Ketamine, an old anesthetic, works very quickly in relieving the symptoms of severe depression in patients who had no response to medications and/or ECT.

TMS for depression at Trifecta Health
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive treatment for depression

TMS uses magnetic stimulation of the brain to help control mood in adults with major depression. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2008 after more than 10 years of clinical investigation in patients who failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from one course of Pharmacotherapy (medication). For this reason, TMS therapy is particularly helpful for people who have not experienced significant relief from antidepressant medications or who have difficulty with their side effects.

Botox for Depression
Evidence of Cosmetic Botox Injections as Adjunctive Treatment of Anxiety and Depression

Years into his career, board-certified psychiatrist Dr. Edward Fruitman, M.D. noticed a trend: Patients who experienced depression and anxiety also felt dissatisfied with their physical appearance. Moreover, he noticed that bodies reacted negatively to emotional malaise—wrinkles deepened and multiplied, creating an intractable cycle that inhibited happiness.

This realization inspired Dr. Fruitman to found Trifecta Med Spa, a division of Trifecta Health Medical Center, where he administers Botox® exclusively for cosmetic purposes.

Botox injections NYC into the forehead frown lines remove not only wrinkles, but also some negative emotions.

Depression and Weight
Medical Weight Management offered by Trifecta Health in New York

Most antidepressants list weight gain as a potential side-effect. A majority of patients taking antidepressants for a long period of time have experienced an increase in their weight.

Frequently, the weight gain with antidepressants is very gradual and just “sneaks up” on patients. Most patients gain only a few pounds over the course of a year but this may add up after a period of many years of taking antidepressants.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Trifecta Health specialized on Anxiety disorder treatment in Manhattan, NYC

Depression is frequently accompanied by anxiety disorders. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is characterized by a pattern of excessive worry, even when there is little to provoke it.

Sometimes, anxiety is accompanied by the physical symptoms of muscle tension, headaches, insomnia and fatigue. Generalized Anxiety is often under diagnosed. Patients frequently do not seek help for GAD because they see themselves as “worry warts.” Frequently, patients continue to function well despite GAD, but their quality of life suffers. Often, untreated GAD leads to alcohol or substance abuse, as patients seek relief by self-medicating their anxiety.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder can frequently result in decreased productivity due to the distraction of excessive worries about unlikely events. At home, if you hear from your significant other that you are “taking your work home,” you may be suffering from GAD. Expert treatment of GAD can rapidly restore the quality of life, in both professional and personal arenas.

If you think that you may be suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder, please take this self-evaluation.

GAD can be effectively treated to full remission of symptoms. Trifecta Health can help GAD patients to improve their symptoms by expert Psychopharmacology and Cognitive Psychotherapy.

Panic Disorder

Panic Disorder is characterized by unexpected and repeated episodes of intense fear, accompanied by physical symptoms that may include chest pain, heart palpitations, skin tingling, shortness of breath, dizziness and/ or abdominal distress.

People with Panic Disorder have feelings of terror that strike suddenly and repeatedly with no warning. Due to panic attacks, patients start avoiding activities that make panic attacks likely to occur, and may miss workdays and stressful work-related functions. Panic Disorder symptoms frequently improve following the first session. As soon as the initial symptoms subside, the patients frequently ask themselves why it took them so long to seek professional help.

Trifecta Health in NYC focuses on helping patients with Panic Disorder feel more in control. We believe that the fear of panic attacks can become more disabling then the panic attack itself. We help our patients to achieve control over their Panic Disorder with the use of expert Psychopharmacological and relaxation techniques.

Social Phobia

Social Phobia is a persistent and irrational fear of situations that may involve scrutiny or judgment by others in social situations. At work, sufferers of Social Phobia miss important opportunities to demonstrate their competence due to avoidance and shyness. Social Phobia may prevent individuals from attending social events, participating in public speaking and from forming important relationships.

People with Social Phobia are at high risk for alcohol or other drug dependence, because they may come to rely on drinks or drugs to relax in social situations. However, after several years of use, alcohol no longer adequately controls the symptoms of social anxiety, so the need for better treatment becomes more apparent. Following treatment with NYC Psychiatrist Dr. Fruitman, patients suffering from Social Phobia, frequently report that their lives were transformed.

Although many people with Social Phobia realize that their fears about being with people are excessive or unreasonable, they are unable to overcome them on their own. Trifecta Health can help patients overcome Social Phobia by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and expert Psychopharmacology.
