Resolutions For a Happier You

New Year is almost upon us, and that means one thing - New Year’s Resolutions.

Are you someone who makes promises to yourself on that big night, or are you someone who avoids them because they never end up coming to fruition?

Whichever side you’re on, why not make this year the year it all changes? Make the best resolution there is - a resolution to be a happier version of you.

Of course, that’s very easy to say and quite difficult to do in practice, especially if are in the grips of a condition which is sapping the happiness right out of your soul. New Year is a particularly difficult time for many, especially someone who is suffering from anxiety and depression. A person with ADHD may also find this time of year difficult, because there are so many plans to make and events to attend. Of course, if you are struggling with your overall body image, you might also be worried about enjoying yourself over the Christmas period and that having a detrimental impact on the way you feel about yourself.

The best answer to all of this? Make that resolution based on you, right now. Resolve that you will take the first steps towards overcoming your problem, and resolve to be at peace with the fact that it won’t happen overnight.

The reason resolutions often fail is because we put a huge amount of pressure on ourselves to complete something which is basically quite unachievable. We set ourselves up for failure from the start, so how can you expect to be happy when it doesn’t work out? Don’t put that pressure on yourself, don’t force yourself to make a plan, and don’t give yourself a timescale, simply make a promise to the most important person in this equation  - you.

Promise yourself that you will find the strength to reach out for help. Promise yourself that you will conquer your problem one step at a time, and that at an unspecified point in the future, you will become a happier and healthier version of yourself.

Here at Trifecta Health, we know all too well how difficult this time of year can be for many people.
